Chart of the Day: Depression and Walking #1

Today's Chart of the Day is from a research article in the British Medical Journal titled “Effect of Exercise for Depression.”This study, involving 14,000 participants and published in February 2024, concluded that “exercise is an effective treatment for depression, with walking or jogging, yoga, and strength training,” and that “these effects were comparable to psychotherapy and pharmacology.”

Walking or jogging was found to be the most effective, followed closely by therapy. Combining antidepressant drugs (SSRIs) with various activities was beneficial, but using drugs alone ranked last, at tenth place. As Steven Adler said, "You can have all the riches and success in the world, but if you don't have your health, you have nothing."
