Today’s Chart of the Day comes from AlphaWise in a Bloomberg article about the rise of “Hot Desking.” This is when work areas, such as desks, are not assigned to specific employees. Since many are still working remotely, not everyone needs a spot all the time, ultimately saving on costs. The chart shows that not allocating desks is more of a European phenomenon with 53% of offices in the UK doing this; however, in the US, 32% of offices also utilize this in some way. This office structure was accelerated by the COVID-19 outbreak.
