Today’s Chart of the Day, from OfDollarsndData, shows the Shiller inflation-adjusted value for US housing since 1890 and is the longest historical chart I’ve ever seen for real estate values.The chart reflects somewhat normal trends going into 2000, but the spikes before the Great Recession and again in 2018 are something to note. 
 
As illustrated by this second chart from Apollo, we can see that homeowners are certainly better off financially now than in 2008, looking at the favorable level of homes that are owned free and clear, and even if they have loans, are locked in at historically low rates.
