As we all walk outside this month and think, “It is hot!", remember today’s Chart of the Day from the Statewide High Temperature Records set during the month of July. The mid- to early- 1930’s, which is noted in dark red and coincides with the Dust Bowl, was a particularly bad time for most states. The earliest heat record was set in 1887 in South Carolina and the most recent was in 2019 in Colorado. The hottest area on record is Furnace Creek in Death Valley, California. In 1913, they reached 134 degrees Fahrenheit, which also happens to be the highest temperature ever set on planet Earth.
